# Installation & Setup

    # How to Install & Set Up Cockpit on Mac

    This guide will walk you through downloading Keyrails, installing it on your Mac, giving it the necessary permissions, and setting up your preferred shortcut.

    ## 1. Download Keyrails

    Open the Keyrails download page and click **Download**.

    Then:

    1. Click the **Apple () Download** button.
    2. Wait for the ZIP file to download.
    3. Open the ZIP file.
    4. Double-click the **Keyrails installer DMG**.

    ## 2. Install Keyrails

    Once the installer opens, drag the **Keyrails app** into your **Applications** folder.

    Then:

    1. Open your **Applications** folder.
    2. Find **Keyrails**.
    3. Double-click it to launch the app.
    4. Click **Open** if macOS asks you to confirm.

    Keyrails will now walk you through the permissions it needs to work correctly.

    ## 3. Enable Screen Recording Permission

    The first permission Keyrails needs is **Screen Recording**.

    When prompted:

    1. Click **Open System Settings**.
    2. Find **Keyrails** in the Screen Recording permissions list.
    3. Toggle Keyrails **on**.
    4. Quit and reopen Keyrails when prompted.

    After reopening, the Keyrails setup window should appear again.

    ## 4. Enable Accessibility Permission

    Next, Keyrails needs **Accessibility** permission.

    1. Click **Enable** next to Accessibility.
    2. macOS will open the appropriate settings page.
    3. Find **Keyrails** in the list.
    4. Toggle it **on**.

    Keyrails should now have the permissions it needs to work inside Premiere Pro.

    ## 5. Use Keyrails in Premiere Pro

    Open **Adobe Premiere Pro**.

    When your cursor is near a keyframe handle, hold your Keyrails shortcut.

    By default, the shortcut is:

    **Command**

    Keyrails will select the nearby handle for you. You can then **click, hold, and drag** to move it perfectly straight.

    ## 6. Change Your Keyrails Shortcut

    If you want to use a different shortcut:

    1. Open the **Keyrails settings**.
    2. Change the **Single Modifier** to another modifier key.

    You can also choose to use a **Modifier + Key** combination instead.

    For example, rather than simply holding Command, you could configure Keyrails to require a modifier along with another key.

    ## Troubleshooting Permissions

    macOS can occasionally be finicky with app permissions. If Keyrails isn't working even after you've enabled the required permissions, removing and re-adding the app can fix the issue.

    ### Accessibility

    Go back to your Mac's Accessibility permissions:

    1. Find **Keyrails** in the list.
    2. Remove Keyrails from the permissions list.
    3. Click the **+** button.
    4. Navigate to your **Applications** folder.
    5. Select **Keyrails** and add it back.
    6. Make sure Keyrails is enabled.

    Try Keyrails again inside Premiere.

    ### Screen & System Audio Recording

    If it still isn't working, repeat the same process under **Screen & System Audio Recording**:

    1. Remove Keyrails from the permissions list.
    2. Click the **+** button.
    3. Find Keyrails in your Applications folder.
    4. Add it back.
    5. Make sure the permission is enabled.

    ## You're Ready to Go

    Once Keyrails has both **Screen Recording** and **Accessibility** permissions, you're ready to use it inside Premiere Pro.

    Move your cursor near a keyframe handle, hold your Keyrails shortcut, and you can quickly grab and move the handle in a perfectly straight line.

    This guide will walk you through downloading Keyrails, installing it on Windows, giving it the necessary permissions, and setting up your preferred shortcut.

    ## 1. Download Keyrails

    1. Go to the Keyrails landing page.
    2. Click the **Windows (⊞) download button**.
    3. The installer file will download automatically.

    ## 2. Extract the Download

    1. Open your **Downloads folder**.
    2. Locate the downloaded file.
    3. Right-click it and select **“Extract All.”** Click **Extract**.
    4. A new folder with the extracted files will appear.

    ## 3. Run the Installer

    1. Open the extracted folder.
    2. Double-click the installer file.
    3. If prompted:
       * Click **“More info”**
       * Then click **“Run anyway”**
    4. Click **Yes** when asked to allow changes.

    ***

    ## 4. Complete Installation

    1. Click **Next** through the installer steps.
    2. Finish the installation.

    ***

    ## 5. Open Keyrails

    1. Look in your **system tray (bottom-right corner)**.
    2. Find the **diamond icon**.
    3. Left-click it to open the app.

    ## 6. Activate License

    1. Go to the **License** section.
    2. Paste the **license key** you received via email.
    3. Click **Activate License**.

    ***

    ## 7. Set or Change Hotkey

    1. Go to the **General** settings tab.
    2. You’ll see a default shortcut (e.g., Ctrl + Alt + Z).
    3. To change it:
       * Click the shortcut field
       * Press your desired key combination
    4. Choose a shortcut that:
       * Doesn’t conflict with Windows
       * Doesn’t conflict with apps like Adobe Premiere Pro

    ## 8. Use Keyrails

    1. Open your editing software (e.g., Premiere).
    2. Move near a keyframe handle.
    3. Hold your shortcut key.
    4. Your cursor will snap to the handle.
    5. Click, hold, and drag to adjust.

    ## 9. Adjust Detection Radius (Optional)

    1. In settings, find **Detection Radius**.
    2. Increase it to snap from farther away.
    3. Decrease it for more precise control.

    ***

    ## Done

    Keyrails is now installed and ready to use on Windows.
